R apid Response Unit: revolution in women’s rights protection
Rapid Response Unit (RRU) is a new, innovative initiation of Society without violence NGO, which is going to be a very optimal way of giving a response to gender based violence cases from the whole territory of Armenia. The Rapid Response Unit is a very unique working team, which will detect the gender based violence cases, make rapid investigation and provide the victim with a social and juridical contribution.
The idea of having such a project comes from SWV NGO’s vision of achieving a society without violence against women.
V olunteering with an employment opportunity
”Society Without Violence” NGO is looking for active and enthusiastic young volunteers, who want to live in civil society, achieve gender equality and democracy, make real their initiatives.
This is a chance to get experience, knowledge, skills and motivation, to get to know many young, enthusiastic people, participate in numerous events in Armenia and abroad and hundreds of other initiatives.
After 4 month of volunteering the best volunteer will have an opportunity to get a job at SWV NGO.

A rmenian Activists: Myth or Reality?!

On August 17 at “Society without Violence” NGO was presented Robert Davidian’s “Armenian Activists Now” film. The film director himself joined Armenian activists at the film presentation.
“Camera has a really huge power”, started Mr. Davidian the film presentation and he could reveal its all power in the film.

S top Gender based Violence in soap operas
81% of Armenian population spends time in front of TV more than 3 hours (Armenian Branch of Caucasus Research Resource Center). The 80% of Armenian population watches Armenian soap operas (IPSC Institute for Political and Sociological Consulting).
The above mentioned is the statistics, which concerned SWV NGO team, especially when according to other research the “Hard Living” soap opera on Armenia TV is the first in a rating of TV shows for people above 4.
The picture was even more shocking, when SWV committed to make a research the above mentioned soap opera and make an analysis. The scenes with women in “Hard Living” soap opera are 550 minutes out of studied 730 minutes. The scenes of violence against

SWV team with both Yerevan and regional young members is going to Dilijan for 3 days on July 1-3. The purpose of the meeting is the capacity building and strengthening of the team as well as the preparation to the Annual SWV July 27th event. Each member of SWV team is going to hold a session by her own initiation on a particular topic connected to women’s rights promotion in Armenia. The second day of the meeting will be dedicated to the discussion on SWV public event, thus a dynamic Civic forum will be held.
The meeting will be full of surprises, as no member knows what the other members are planning to implement during their sessions. In the evenings some free-time activities as movie screening and interactive games will be held, again including gender perspectives in them.
T hey already know CEDAW
On June 23rd in Society without Violence NGO’s office was held “I know CEDAW” training. The training was SWV Regional Network Coordinator Ani Khachatryan’s Individual Plan as alumnus of Second International Training Course on Human Rights Education.
Training aimed to raise the awareness level of SWV Network members and women human right defender on this UN document and its Optional Protocol with the help of participatory education techniques.
Training passed in very warm and friendly atmosphere. First, the functions and projects of the organization were presented, later the aim and structure of the training. After getting to know each other, each participant presented her expectations, skills from the training, as well as her own rule.

A genuine human rights defender: Lala Aslikyan
Lala Aslikyan is often seen all around Yerevan at different demonstrations, manifestations and events that in some way are connected to human and environmental rights.
She is active in almost every field; gay rights, ecological problems, human rights in the army and women’s rights. For the moment she is also involved in the preparations to this years’ election in May where her task is to monitor any possible illegalities around the election. This is her only activity for which she is paid at the moment, prioritizing to be an active volunteer instead. Lala is a genuine human right defender.
Lala is a married woman in her 30s with no children. She is an educated psychologist but
