On August 6th, Arman’s father, Arsen Araqelyan, stabbed his wife to death in his brother’s home.
Lusine Davtyan’s plan to start a new life free from abuse was abruptly destroyed.
Arman’s 15 year old sister Suzy was able to cover his eyes with her hands while she witnessed the stabbing through a glass door. But, as Lusine was taken to the living room, Arman saw his mother covered in blood and knew that it was his dad who killed his mom. Hours later, at the hospital, Lusine died.
“Lusine simply didn’t tell many things to her parents, but she would tell me that Arsen would make quarrels on trivial things every single day. He would get angry because she had forgotten to put the forks or salt on the table. He once made her stay outside the house with the baby during a very cold winter. He would make her stand on one leg for hours. Which awful thing should I tell you?” said Lusine’s best friend.
Lusine’s father, Ruben Davtyan stated that he had only been aware of three occasions where his son-in–law beat his daughter.
According to Lusine’s father, his son-in-law was a harsh man. Ruben explained that Arsen wouldn’t allow his wife to leave the home to go out, to communicate with neighbours, or to work. He would demand that she only went with him to collect bottles and metal.
